NASA on Friday released pictures of Jupiter’s northern and southern auroras taken by the Hubble Space telescope 23 years ago. Posting the pictures on social media, the space research organisation left netizens in awe, some of them reacting in disbelief.
“It’s #ThrowbackThursday! Released 23 years ago this month, these views of Jupiter’s northern and southern auroras were taken in ultraviolet light by Hubble. The auroras are brilliant curtains of light in Jupiter’s upper atmosphere,” NASA tweeted.
Jupiter has the most powerful auroras in the solar system and they are created when high-energy particles enter the planet’s atmosphere near its magnetic poles and collide with atoms of gas.
According to the post, the pictures, released about 23 years ago, were taken by the Hubble Telescope and views the auroras in ultraviolet light
