Jiyoung Yoon is suing Tesla and it’s owner, Elon Musk, claiming that her husband’s Model 3 burst into flames after hitting a tree and he was killed in the car crash.

Who is Jiyoung Yoon?

According to TMZ, which obtained the new lawsuit, Yoon is blaming the 2020 Tesla Model 3 for the death of her late husband, Jyung Woo Hahn. She said that his Tesla malfunctioned, crashed into a tree and burst into flames.

The alleged incident happened in March 2022. Her husband was driving on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Rockland County, New York at the time of the impact. According to the lawsuit, Jiyoung said that her husband survived the initial impact and it was Tesla’s explosion and the resultant fire that he was unable to escape from.

Jiyoung has alleged that Model 3 was defective in design. She has also accused the self-driving vehicle of having faulty manufacturing and warning.

Tesla’s Model 3 has received a five-star safety rating from NCAP in every category and sub-category, according to an October 2018 statement. Tesla’s Vehicle Safety Report for the third quarter of 2022 shows one crash for every 6.26 million miles driven among drivers using “Autopilot” technology.

Jiyoung said that it is “unreasonably dangerous for its designed and intended purposes.” The suit will be demanding damages from Tesla. Jiyoung wants the suit to go to a jury trial.

In another incident in July this year, car safety regulators in the US are investigating a fatal crash between a Tesla Model 3 and a 2013 Subaru Impreza. The Tesla was suspected of being in a self-driving mode at the time. The incident happened on July 5 in South Lake Tahoe, California, which left two people dead, including the driver of the Subaru and a three-month-old baby in the Tesla.
