What is an Amber Alert?

An Amber Alert (also known as AMBER Alert) is sent out in the most serious missing child cases when the police have reasons to suspect that said child might be in danger. The full form of AMBER is America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response. The method was devised after the abduction and subsequent murder of a teenager named Amber Rene Hagerman in 1996.

Amber Alerts are issued by television broadcast, radio, social media, and text messages, where police ask citizens to provide them with any information regarding a missing child.

Another alert that is used in the cases of missing people in the United States is the silver alert. While the silver alert was earlier used for people above 18, its standards were expanded in 2021 to include children as well.
