Noted actor and now one of the prominent names in the Tamil Nadu politics, Kamal Haasan, founder of Makkal Neethi Maiam (MNM) party made his priorities clear on Sunday and said he is ready to quit acting if it comes in between his political duties, reported PTI.

“I will wrap up my ongoing assignments and leave cinema if it becomes a hurdle in my political career,” said the actor-turned-politician.

Calling his entry in politics historic, Haasan said that he was once among that 30% who remained aloof from politics. He also cited an example of late chief minister M G Ramachandran, who as an MLA acted in several films and used the medium to propagate his ideas of serving people.

Haasan, however, said if cinema comes in the way of his public service, he would choose his political duties above personal. He said he is clarifying his stance on the issue as many of his fellow candidates said that he would leave politics for cinema when the time will come.

The MNM founder also said that being a party that has got nothing to hide, he has disclosed the real expenses the party has incurred on election campaigns, a move lauded by many election officials. He also revealed that he received various threats but he refused to speak on it any further, reported PTI.

Polling in Tamil Nadu will be held on April 6 in a single phase. Haasan is contesting the assembly elections from Coimbatore South.

On Saturday, he asked voters in the constituency to expose all those approaching them for their votes with money or gifts.
