Lenin Castillo, a Dominican boxer, was taken to the hospital on Saturday after being carried out of the
ring on a stretcher. In a light heavyweight boxing match at Tottenham Hotspur
Stadium, Castillo was knocked out by British opponent Callum Smith.

Smith caught his opponent
square on the chin in the second round. Castillo sank to his knees and
began trembling on the floor. At 55 seconds into the round, the referee, Bob
Williams, waived the bout off.

Castillo, 33, was “responsive” after being
treated by medical personnel in the ring, according to event producer Eddie
Hearn.

Smith, fighting for the first time since losing at
super-middleweight to Canelo Alvarez in December, jumped on the rope after the
knockdown but stopped his celebrations short out of concern for his opponent.

Castillo, fortunately, was merely sent to the hospital
for precautionary reasons.

“Sky add that he’s conscious and just going to
hospital for precautionary measures,” talkSPORT journalist Michael Benson
said on Twitter, citing Sky Sports.

After the knockout, Eddie Hearn also took to Twitter.

He stated: “A
horrible brutal knockout. Castillo is responsive and on his way to the hospital.”

We wish Castillo all the best and a speedy recovery.

Coach Dave Coldwell and fighter Jason Quigley also
expressed their support for Castillo.

“Wow,
Callum Smith, what a statement, love to see Callum fight Bivol I think he wins
and becomes world champion again,” Quigley tweeted. “Thoughts and
prayers with Castillo.”

Smith’s win came two hours before Joshua faced Usyk in the
ring to defend his heavyweight world championship.
