Uma Maheswari, the daughter of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao – who also went by NTR – was found dead at her home in Hyderabad on Monday. She was 57.

Citing police, ANI reported that she died by suicide. However, the autopsy is being conducted. 

Maheshwari got married to K. Sreenevasa Prasad in December 2021. This was her second marriage. According to Daily Picked, her husband has American citizenship. She was previously married to an Indian businessman, Narendra Rajan, from Andhra Pradesh.

She was born to N. T. Rama Rao and Basavatarakam Nandamuri. Her father died on January 18, 1996, due to a cardiac arrest. Her mother passed away in 1985. Her parents got married in May 1943. At the time of marriage, NTR was 20 years old.

Maheshwari had 11 brothers and sisters. Her eldest brother, Nandamuri Ramakrishna Sr., died in 1962. Her third eldest brother, Nandamuri Saikrishna, who was a theatre owner, died in 2004 following diabetic complications. Her fourth brother, Nandamuri Harikrishna – who was a child actor-turned-politician – passed away in a car accident on 29 August 2018.

Harikrishna’s sons, Nandamuri Kalyan Ram and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. – who are Maheshwari’s nephews – are actors in the Telugu film industry (Tollywood).

Maheshwari’s sixth brother, Nandamuri Balakrishna is one of the leading actors in Tollywood. He also started his career as a child artist. He contested in 2014 assembly elections as a TDP candidate.

Her eldest sister, Daggubati Purandeswari, represented the Indian National Congress in the Lok Sabha and was a Union Minister. She later moved to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Maheswari’s other sisters are Nara Bhuvaneshwari and Garapati Lokeswari. She was the youngest of all 12 children of NTR.
