Uma Maheshwari, the daughter of  TDP founder and former Andhra Pradesh CM Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao’s, popularly known as NTR, was found hanging at her residence in Telangana’s Hyderabad on Monday.

As per local media reports and India TV, the 57-year-old was facing health issues was under treatment for the last few months. 

Who was Uma Maheshwari?

Uma Maheshwari was former CM NTR’s youngest daughter. She got married to K. Sreenevasa Prasad in December 2021.

She was first married to an Indian businessman, Narendra Rajan, from Andhra Pradesh.

Maheswari’s father, NTR Sr, died in 1996, due to cardiac arrest. She had 11 siblings – eight brothers and three sisters. Her mother, Basavatarakam, died in 1985. 

Maheswari lived with her husband in an apartment at Jubilee Hills, which is a posh area in Hyderabad. 

A police official told PTI that on Monday morning, Maheswari’s younger daughter, son-in-law and a relative broke open the door of the bedroom, which was bolted from inside, after failing to get a response from her. They found her hanging from the ceiling fan. Her husband was out of town when she was found.

A case under Section 174 of CrPC (suicide) was registered at the Jubilee Hills police station and the body for sent for autopsy.

Citing preliminary findings, police told PTI that ill-health and depression were suspected to be the reasons for her allegedly taking the extreme step. However, the observations were not conclusive, they said.

Police said her younger daughter came to her home on Sunday along with her husband.
