Vice President Venkaiah Naidu's tenure will expire on August 10, hence the Election Commission of India has stated that the 2022 vice-presidential election would take place on August 6. The deadline for filing nominations for the election is July 19. According to Article 68 of the Constitution, the Vice President of India's Election must be concluded prior to the expiration of the term in order to fill the vacancy created by the outgoing Vice President's term of office. The second-highest constitutional position in India is that of the vice president who serves as the Rajya Sabha's ex-officio Chairperson. Each voter may select as many candidates as there are running for office. It is required to mark at least the first preference. To be elected, a candidate must receive the requisite number of votes, often known as the quota. Bhagwant Mann, the new chief minister of Punjab, announced on Tuesday that Shaheed Diwas (March 23) will be a public holiday for the state. Mann, 48, took oath as the Punjab CM last week on Wednesday. The Punjab Assembly, which is now crowded with members of Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party, passed a resolution on the same day to erect statues of Babasaheb Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh in the Assembly premises. Bhagwant Mann, in his short time as the Punjab chief minister so far, has shown admiration for Indian freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. His newly elected leader's oath-taking ceremony was conducted in Khatkar Kalan, the ancestry village of Bhagat Singh. Mann said the swearing-in ceremonies earlier took place at cricket stadiums or the Raj Bhavan. “Now this oath-taking ceremony is being held at villages of martyrs. Bhagat Singh had dreamt of freedom and the AAP is fighting to take that freedom to the common people,” he added. Days after taking over the Chief Minister's office, Mann announced that nearly 25,000 positions vacant in various state departments will be filled up. Out of these, 10,000 were of the Punjab Police. Adding to the announcement, Mann said that these jobs would be given only on merit and not recommendations and bribes. Breathing life into the newly-born independent India, Dr Rajendra Prasad stood in a radiant, high-domed circular Durbar Hall in Rashtrapati Bhawan and delivered speech first in Hindi and then English, shortly after taking oath as the first President of India. He had spent the morning paying his respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. It is the day we adopted our Constitution, the longest written in the world. The day we celebrate as our Republic Day. After two pandemic marred years that has left the entire world, including India, rattled, the celebrations this year will be largely transformed with shorter parade gap and no foreign leader as chief guest. ,In new guidelines issued by the Delhi Police on Monday, children below the age of 15 will not be allowed to attend the parade at Rajpath, while it is necessary for all adults to be fully vaccinated and follow other COVID-protocols, such as wearing masks and observing social distancing. ,Also Read | Watch: PM Modi unveils Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's hologram statue,While the Constitution of India is the biggest authority and the most significant element of our identity, it's highly imperative to know the history and importance of this day. History of Republic Day,It takes us back to January 26, 1930, when for the first time, the then Indian National Congress (INC) party demanded Purna Swaraj (complete Independence) and since then this date holds great significance in the history of our freedom movement. However, the impetus to come up with a well-structured constitution came from the then Congress leader and revolutionary MN Roy, who first proposed the formation of a constituent assembly in 1935. Later on December 9, 1946, the Constituent Assembly met for the first time in New Delhi and, a drafting committee chaired by Dr BR Ambedkar was appointed. The Ambedkar headed body took almost three years (two years, eleven months and seventeen days to be precise) to complete the drafting of the Constitution of the biggest democracy of the world. This newly formed constitution was enacted on November 26, 1949 on and was adopted and implemented by the Indian Constituent Assembly on January 26, 1950. Thus, Republic day is celebrated on this day. A rare Marathi short film made on Babasaheb Ambedkar in 1968 has been acquired by the National Film Archive of India, an official statement said on Tuesday.,The film titled ‘Mahapurush Dr. Ambedkar’ was produced by the Director of Publicity, Government of Maharashtra in July 1968, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ministry said.,Directed by Namdeo Vatkar under the banner of Vathkar Productions, the music for the 18-minute short film was composed by renowned composer Datta Davajekar.,Also read:&nbsp;<a href="https://opoyi.com/ambedkar-jayanti-2021-dr-br-ambedkars-top-quotes-that-still-remain-relevant">Dr BR Ambedkar's top quotes that still remain relevant</a>,Veteran film artiste David Abraham was the narrator for the film. Namdeo Vatkar was a veteran actor and director in Marathi film industry who wrote and directed films like Aaher featuring Sulochana in 1957 and Mulga featuring Hansa Wadkar in 1956.,Vatkar also wrote the story of Ram Gabale film Ghardhani along with P.L.Deshpande in 1952.,“It is a very timely discovery of the film on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar when we are celebrating 130th birth anniversary of the key architect of the Indian Constitution on 14th April. The short film fictionalises the key events of Dr. Ambedkar’s life and it also has live footage of his later years,” said Prakash Magdum, Director, NFAI.,The film has the visuals of Ambedkar embracing the Buddhist religion and his visit to Nepal along with close-up shots of his funeral procession at Dadar Chowpaty in Mumbai.,“The film was originally made in 35 mm format but what we have found is a 16 mm copy probably meant for distribution in rural areas. The condition of the film is moderate and we plan to digitise it soon so that it can be accessed by people,” said Magdum.,“We appeal to individual collectors and distributors along with others to come forward and submit films or footages at NFAI so that it can be preserved," he said.
