Facebook on Friday banned former US President Donald Trump for two years. It said that politicians will no longer be given a blanket of immunity for deceptive or abusive content at the social network based on their comments being newsworthy.

Social media allegedly played a significant hand in the January 6 riots on the US Capitol. Discussions on mobile applications like Parler were on a rise during the riots as the mob allegedly planned the attack on the platform. Many politicians have been banned since then.

Here are five politicians who have been banned from social media since the US Capitol riots:

1) Donald Trump

Donald Trump was banned from Facebook for two years on Friday. The social media platform said he deserved the maximum punishment for violating its rules over a deadly attack by his supporters on the US Capitol.

Trump is permanently suspended from Twitter. The company said the ban is “due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

Snapchat, YouTube, Tik Tok have also banned Donald Trump. Reddit banned r/DonaldTrump, a popular subreddit.

2) Sidney Powell

Twitter banned Donald Trump’s former pro-Trump attorney Sidney Powell three days after the riots. Powell’s ban came as the microblogging site expelled several QAnon account.

Powell has been accused of spreading misinformation during and after the 2020 US Elections. 

3) Steve Bannon

YouTube removed Steve Bannon’s ‘War Room’ podcast for violation of YouTube’s Terms of Service. Twitter also banned Bannon, a former White House strategist after he posted a tweet calling for the decapitation of Dr. Anthony Fauci.

4) Michael Flynn

Micheal Flynn, a former National Security Advisor was banned for Twitter. He had urged Trump to use martial law to overturn the results of the elections.

5) Ron Watkins

Twitter banned Ron Watkins for spreading misinformation. Watkins is a prominent QAnon figure and his messages were often amplified by Trump himself.
