A reported escape of nine juvenile offenders from the secure treatment and detention facility, Abraxas Academy, in Berks County has prompted an immediate response from Pennsylvania State Police troopers. The incident unfolded sometime before 9 p.m. on a fateful Sunday night.

The escape was precipitated by a riot that erupted within the walls of the academy, located on Academy Drive in Morgantown. Swift action was taken, with state and local law enforcement descending on the scene to regain control of the juvenile detention center. However, the juvenile offenders had already fled the facility, and authorities now face the daunting task of locating them.

PSP has confirmed the escape, “PSP Reading along with multiple other law enforcement are looking for 9 juveniles who escaped from Abraxas Academy tonight around 8:00 PM.”

Law enforcement has provided a crucial detail to aid in their apprehension: the escapees should be recognized by their white or grey shirts. At this point, it remains unclear whether any injuries occurred during the incident, but authorities are diligently investigating.

In a plea to the public, authorities have urged anyone who encounters these juveniles to immediately contact 911. The swift reporting of sightings can play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and security of the community.

Abraxas Academy, as per its website, is a specialized multi-service facility offering secure residential treatment and detention services. It caters to male youth aged 14 to 18 who are in the ninth grade or above.

This incident closely follows the recent capture of Danelo Cavalcante, a convicted murderer who managed to escape from a Chester County prison, sparking a widespread manhunt that lasted for 14 days.
