An active shooter is reported at a suburban Detroit hotel, police say. State police said the situation is active and dangerous. Dearborn is located to the south and southwest of Detroit.

Law enforcement, including Michigan State Police and ATF agents, swarmed downtown early Thursday after reports of an armed shooter in the Hampton Inn.

“We believe that we have the suspect contained at the location,” Dearborn Police Cpl. Dan Bartok told reporters. “Officers are negotiating with the suspect at this point,” Detroit Free Press reported.

Bartok said one victim was taken to a local hospital. It was immediately unclear whether the shooter was whether everyone had been evacuated. The shooter armed with a ‘long gun’ and a news reporter said the shooter may be a military veteran, the Detroit Free Press report added.

Ala Samad, someone who was standing nearby, said, “It’s scary.” “Everyone is here, state police, Dearborn police. My staff is panicking. You never expect something like this over here.”

Just after 3 pm, state police urged locals to steer clear of it, police said.
