Texarkana Texas Police Department on Sunday said that one man was killed and several others were left injured in a shooting at a Halloween party in eastern Texas. The police, in a news release, said that gunfire erupted late Saturday at an event center in Texarkana.

As per the police, “at least a couple hundred people” were there. The 10 people who were shot were taken to two separate hospitals for treatment. They were taken either by ambulance, police unit or private vehicle.

A 20-year-old man was later pronounced dead at one of the hospitals. His name was not released. Police said the injuries of the other nine people didn’t appear to be life-threatening.

The police said that the identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The suspected shooter hasn’t been taken into custody. Police said the suspect left the scene in an unknown vehicle.

Texarkana is located on the Texas border, about 180 miles (290 kilometers) east of Dallas.

“We are investigating a shooting that happened at a Halloween party inside Octavia’s Event Center that left one dead and nine others wounded,” the police said in a media release.

“The injured were transported to Wadley Regional Medical Center and Christus St. Michael Hospital by ambulance, police unit, and private vehicle. One 20-year-old man died a short time later at the hospital. The remaining nine victims’ injuries do not currently appear to be life threatening,” the police added.

“Detectives are investigating and interviewing victims and witnesses. It is estimated that there were at least a couple hundred people in the venue when the shootings occurred.

“The suspect is described as a black male, who left in an unknown vehicle following the shooting. While the motive is still unknown, the preliminary investigation indicates that it may been the result of some type of disturbance among some the partygoers,” the police said.
