Atlanta Hawks’ Trae Young has been fined $20,000 for “directing inappropriate language at a game official,” the NBA said on Thursday. The Atlanta Hawks lost against the Mavericks in Dallas.

The Hawks lost 118-117 to the Dallas Mavericks and the incident took place in the final possession of the game at American Airlines Center. Young got irate as time expired, thinking he was fouled by Dalla’s Willie Cauley-Stein on the concluding play of the game, as just 4.7 seconds were remaining before the inbound pass, preventing him from getting the ball.

Young stomped towards the official and yelled at him about the no-call, but after the game, crew chief Josh Tiven told the reporters that the officials felt foul between Young and Cauley-Stein was incidental and didn’t call for a visitor. Tiven added that the crew came to a conclusion after watching the video of the play postgame.

The league in a statement on Thursday backed the decision and said that it was correct. The league reiterated in a statement adding that, “under the playing rules, Dallas’ Willie Cauley-Stein was entitled to a normal step on a screen from behind, which he took, and which led to incidental and legal contact between Cauley-Stein and Young.”

Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce said after the game that Cauley–Stein “ran Tray over — and that’s a foul. “It blows up our play,” he said.

“I’m not going to run away from the ball with four seconds left and we’re trying to win the game,” Willie Cauley-Stein said. “I’m not going to fall just to fall at the end. That’s just the most frustrating part. Not really having an opportunity to make a play at the end is just really frustrating.”
