Bill De Blasio,
the former New York City mayor slated to run for Congress, announced Tuesday
that he is not in the race. The 60-year-old Democrat served as the mayor of New
York from 2014 to 2021. Announcing his decision to not partake in the race,
Bill De Blasio tweeted, “I’ve represented the neighborhoods of the 11th CD (constitutional
district) for years and I love the people who live here.

“It was gratifying
to connect with community and elected leaders while I considered a run. I’m
certain a progressive can win this seat and serve us in Washington.”

“Back in January,
I made a decision to focus on advocating for policies that would continue to
drive down income inequality in New York – one of my proudest achievements. I’m
going to stick with that decision – it was the right one then and it remains so,”
he wrote further.

When De Blasio’s
term at the mayor’s office concluded last year, it was expected that he would
make a bid for Washington politics. However, just last month, he announced on
social media that he would not be running for the Governor’s office.

“No, I am not
going to be running for Governor of New York state. But I’m going to devote

Tuesday’s announcement
ends months of speculation about what Bill De Blasio will do after serving the
mayoral post for a long time. While his plans on what he will do remain in
shadows, he has at least revealed what he is not going to do.

De Blasio’s announcement
comes after the 11th Congressional District was redrawn by Democrats
to include parts of Brooklyn to Staten Island, according to a New York Post
report.
