Marvel finally returns back to theaters with its prequel %u2018Black Widow%u2019 film set before Avengers: Endgame. The movie is more about the character study of Natasha Romanoff and it gives Scarlett Johansson%u2019s character one last hurrah in prequel form. Finally, she got her own solo film for far too long.
The Black Widow movie also serves as an origin story for a new character and it%u2019s none other than Natasha%u2019s little sister Yelena Belova, as played by Florence Pugh. Even before the movie was released it was quite clear that Yelena would become a major player in the Marvel movies.

Marvel scooped her up for the role of Yelena and presumably, they plan to center future shows and films around her character. Though, it%u2019s no surprise that Yelena features heavily in the Black Widow%u2019s end-credits scene. As Black Widow is the first movie in Phase 4, it does paint an interesting picture of what the future holds and the end-credits scene gives you a sneak peek.
What happens in the Black Widow post-credits scene?
Black Widow is mostly set in 2016 shortly after the events of Captain America: Civil War when Natasha is on the run from the U.S. government. Natasha reconnected with Yelena between the events of the Civil War and Thano%u2019s invasion of Earth in Avengers: Infinity War.
Both of them returned to the Red Room together and were trained to be spies in order to free a group of female assassins who were being mind-controlled by a Russian spymaster there.

In the movie, Natasha and Yelena discuss the traumas they themselves suffered in the Red Room and discuss their future plans.
In the end-credits scene, which is set in 2023 after the events of Endgame, where Yelena visits Natasha%u2019s grave in Ohio. When a woman played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus named Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Val) shows up. From their conversation, we can assume that Yelena already works for Val as an assassin.

Yelena tells Val not to bother her on her vacation time, and then Val explains that she has Yelena%u2019s next %u201Ctarget%u201D lined up. Val says, %u201CMaybe you%u2019d like a shot at the man responsible for your sister%u2019s death,%u201D and shows Yelena the picture of Hawkeye. The photo sets the stage for Disney+%u2019s next Marvel TV series, Hawkeye.
