One of Blue Origin‘s long-term employees will be replacing ‘Saturday Night Live’ star Pete Davidson on the next space flight, Jeff Bezos‘ space travel company announced.
In a statement on Monday, Blue Origin said that the chief architect of its suborbital rocket, Gary Lai, will be replacing Davidson.

Gary Lai joined the company in 2004 and was among its first 20 employees.
“Gary is best known as the architect of the New Shepard system, including leading the team responsible for the design and development of many of the key safety systems on the Crew Capsule. He is currently Senior Director and Chief Architect of New Shepard, responsible for all next generation designs, upgrades, and new product development for the New Shepard business,” the company said.
On March 14, the space company had said that Pete Davidson would be one of six passengers on Blue Origin’s next flight, which was initially scheduled for March 23.
He would have been the third celebrity to climb aboard a Blue Origin automated capsule for the 10-minute flight from West Texas.
Three days after the announcement, the company said that Davidson will no longer be able to make the flight.
“Blue Origin’s 20th flight of New Shepard has shifted to Tuesday, March 29. Pete Davidson is no longer able to join the NS-20 crew on this mission. We will announce the sixth crew member in the coming days,” the company had said.
