California firefighters worked to contain a huge blaze that broke out in a San Jose Home Depot and could be seen from outer space on Saturday evening.
Residents were asked to avoid the commercial area. No injuries have been reported but the cause and origin of the fire remain unknown.
The fire department tweeted “If you live/work in the area of this fire on [Blossom Hill] and smell smoke, we recommend that you shelter in place. Close all doors and windows to minimize smoke from getting inside”

Authorities also notified that a pet hospital in the area had to be evacuated and owners were informed to come and pick up their pets. An employee of the hospital said, “It happened so fast. It went from everything normal to smoke filling. Up and not being able to breathe. It happened so quick but in those moments you thinking, ‘I have to get as many animals out as I can”, NBC reported.
The Home Depot was completely destroyed by the five-alarm fire. However, firefighters said they’d continue to fight to douse the flames, overnight.
Currently, it remains unknown when the fire will be under control.
Three weeks back, another Home Depot in Riverhead, in the state of New York, saw a fire break out. It started outside and caused some damage to the facade. However, there were no reports of injuries. The fire only consumed some lawn chairs which were kept outside the building.

Firefighters made quick work of it and brought the flames under control. Authorities responded promptly and launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. However, it appeared to be non-criminal in nature, as per the Riverhead Police detectives, the Riverhead Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad.
