A shooting in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, early Sunday, left five people injured. Police said that two people have been arrested in connection to the shooting.
Officers responded to the area of King Street and Morris Street around 12:55 a.m. after receiving reports of gunshots. The Charleston Police Department said that Trayvon Davis, 21, and a 16-year-old male juvenile, whose has not been named, were charged with firearm violations. Davis, 20, was scheduled to appear at 2 p.m. for a bond hearing.
Initially, it was reported that six people were injured in the incident. However, it was later known that one person suffered an abrasion after falling, and not a gunshot wound.

All five are being treated at hospitals for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, Sgt. Elisabeth Wolfsen said in a statement to CNN.
The shooting is under investigation, officials said.
According to the police incident report, two officers were at the intersection “when they observed a shooting occur in a large crowd” and saw “three individuals running on foot, immediately where the shots came from.”
Local media reported that three of the shooting victims were between 21 and 23 years old. Two were males from Mount Pleasant and another was identified as a female student. Information about the two other victims were not revealed.
Police said they are seeking help from the public in the investigation. Anyone with information, including photographs or videos of the King Street shootings, was asked to call 843-743-7200 and ask for the on-duty detective.

In a Sunday afternoon statement, Mayor John J. Tecklenburg blamed the “senseless violence” on state gun laws that put “more illegal guns and more repeat violent offenders out on the streets.”
“We can and will continue to fight these problems here in Charleston. That’s our job, and we’re accountable,” Tecklenburg said in a statement. “But the hard truth is this: In South Carolina, only the state legislature has the authority to reform our laws with regard to illegal guns and repeat violent offenders. As a city, we’re literally prohibited from taking action in either area.”
