Atlanta police have detained the suspect, a Black woman, in the shooting incident at the Colony Square in midtown. The authorities have confirmed tha three people were shot. 

One has died and two are injured. The authorities added that they are working ‘to determine whether the victims were targeted by the suspect’ or were shot randomly.

Here is the statement: 

Investigators are following up on all leads in an effort to locate the suspect.

Preliminary information indicates:

1. A total of three people have been shot.

2. One of the victims has died. Two were taken to the hospital for treatment (condition unknown at this time).

3. We are working to determine whether the victims were targeted by the suspect or whether any of the victims were shot randomly.

4. The female suspect was located at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and taken into custody without incident.

APD had asked everyone to stay indoors in the area of Peachtree from 12th to 15th Street.

What is Colony Square?

Colony Square is a mixed-use development, including commercial spaces, business spaces, condos, a mall, a theater, a church, and food court, located along Peachtree Street in between 14th and 15th streets.

Considered as one of the oldest high-rise development in Atlanta Midtown, it consists four sections including the W Atlanta-Midtown Hotel. The Colony Square was built between 1969 and 1975.

Several media outlets like Entercom Atlanta and WebMD are located in Colony Square. The Consulate-General of Canada and the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency are also there.
