Condoleezza Rice,
former United States secretary of state, emphatically roasted A-list Democrats
including New York mayor Bill de Blasio, Governor Gavin Newsom and
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, during her speech at the Alfred E Smith
Foundation Dinner on Thursday.

Taking a dig at
Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez’s ‘Tax the Rich’ dress at the Met Gala held earlier
this year, Rice said, “Actually I thought, what I am going to wear? Because you
see it’s complicated, in New York, these days it’s not enough to wear a dress
that looks good, it has to be a dress that actually says something….”

As the audience
laughed, she said she is a California Republican and not a New York
Congresswoman, so tax the rich did not really cut it for her.

The former
secretary of state’s next target was California Governor Gavin Newsom. Making fun
of Newsom’s “fancy” dine-out during a lockdown, Condoleezza Rice said, “I haven’t
seen so many wine glasses since Governor Newsom dined at the French laundry.”

During her speech,
Condoleezza Rice also chose to mock-reflect on the next stage of her
illustrious career and said what she really wanted to do was to replace Roger
Goodell as the NFL’s top executive.

“You know that I’ve
longed for Roger’s job…so maybe this is actually an audition in front of the
New York’s finest. But I already work in Silicon Valley, another place with
huge egos and plenty of 20-somethings with more money than common sense,” Rice
said adding, “The NFL would be a lateral move, I don’t know if that would work.”
