Newly released documents reveal disturbing details about Jeffrey Epstein‘s mental state in the weeks leading up to his suicide. Epstein, the convicted pedophile, experienced sleepless nights, engaged in odd behaviors such as calling his deceased mother’s name, and exhibited signs of distress while confined in a Manhattan jail cell.

The documents shed light on the psychological toll of his confinement following his arrest on federal sex-trafficking and conspiracy charges. Despite claiming he had a “wonderful life” and was not suicidal, Epstein was found hanged in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center on August 10, 2019.

While Epstein’s death was officially ruled a suicide, conspiracy theories suggesting foul play abound due to his connections to influential figures and the severity of the charges he faced. The recently unsealed documents, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, include medical records and a psychological reconstruction of Epstein’s final days.

These records indicate that he had a history of suicidal behavior, including a previous suicide attempt that left his neck bruised and scraped. They also reveal his health issues, such as sleep apnea, constipation, hypertension, and prediabetes, as well as his admission of engaging in sexual activities with multiple partners.

Epstein’s deteriorating mental state became apparent as he struggled to adapt to the confines of his jail cell. He complained about his treatment, including having to wear an orange jumpsuit and being treated like a “bad guy” despite his behavior behind bars.

The documents also describe Epstein’s attempts to make his surroundings more bearable, such as signing up for a Kosher meal and requesting permission to exercise outside. However, these efforts were overshadowed by his increasing agitation, lack of sleep, and frustration with the noise in the jail.

Epstein’s suicide attempt and subsequent placement on suicide watch further highlight his mental distress. Prison officers reported observing him sitting at the edge of his bed lost in thought and expressing frustration over the noise and lack of sleep.

The unsealing of approximately 2,000 pages of documents in a sexual abuse lawsuit against Epstein and the denial of his bail request intensified his despair.

The documents obtained by the Associated Press provide the most comprehensive account of Epstein’s detention, his mental state, and the events surrounding his suicide. They dispel some of the conspiracy theories surrounding his death and instead emphasize the systemic failures within the Bureau of Prisons.

While the released documents provide valuable insights, the full truth may remain elusive until the ongoing investigations by the Justice Department’s inspector general are concluded.
