Donald Trump, who has undercut the 2020 election results, launched a bid Tuesday to regain the presidency in 2024. The former US president made the announcement at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

“In order to make America great and glorious again, I tonight am announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” Trump said.

Earlier, Trump referenced “the blood-soaked streets of our once-great cities,” echoing his 2017 inaugural “American carnage” speech.

His official announcement for the presidency in 2024 comes a week after the midterm elections in which Republicans failed to win as many seats in Congress as they had hoped.

“We are a nation in decline. We are a failing nation for millions of Americans,” Trump said in a speech, speaking about President Joe Biden’s first two years running the nation. “I will ensure Joe Biden does not receive four more years.”

In his speech, Trump accused Biden of mishandling the economy.

“In two years, the Biden administration has destroyed the U.S. economy. Destroyed,” he said.

Earlier Tuesday, aides filed paperwork with the US Federal Election Commission setting up a committee called “Donald J Trump for President 2024.”

“This campaign will be about issues, vision and success, and we will not stop, we will not quit, until we’ve achieved the highest goals and made our country greater than it has ever been before,” Trump said.

With the filing, Trump has also officially launched the 2024 Republican presidential primary, the dynamics of which have shifted dramatically in the past week.

Just a week back, Trump was the undisputed frontrunner in his party’s nominating contest. However, things changed with Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis winning won reelection by an extraordinary 19-point margin.
