Former US President Donald Trump signed up for Rumble, a video-sharing platform, on Saturday. His signing up came on the day of his first campaign-style rally since leaving the White House, in Ohio.

Trump remains banned from major social media platforms since earlier this year when due to his supporters storming the US Capitol on January 6. Twitter banned him permanently whereas Facebook suspended his account until at least 2023. He has also been banned from YouTube until the company determines the risk of violence has decreased.

“It is a great way to reach the American people in a time of the unprecedented assault on free speech in our country by Big Tech tyrants,” Reuters quoted Trump spokesperson Liz Harrington as saying.

Harrington said that the move was in addition to Trump’s plan of starting his own platform and not a replacement. Trump is yet to give any details on the proposed platform.

Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski confirmed the presence of Trump’s verified account on the platform but did not comment any further, Reuters report said.

Rumble was launched in 2013 by Pavlovski as a YouTube alternative. The platform has become popular with conservatives in the United States.
