US President Donald Trump, who tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday, is “not yet out of the woods”, a statement from his physician on Saturday read. However, he said that the medical team remains cautiously optimistic.

“President Trump continues to do well, having made substantial progress since diagnosis,” the statement from Dr Sean Conley read.

“While not yet out of the woods, the team remains cautiously optimistic,” he added.

He further said that the 74-year-old has completed his second dose of Remdesivir on Saturday evening without any complication, and is not requiring supplemental oxygen.

The statement was released by White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

In a video message on Saturday, Trump said that he was improving and will be back soon. “I came here, wasn’t feeling so well. I feel much better now,” the president said from Walter Reed Military Hospital, where he is getting treated for COVID-19.

“We’re working hard to get me all the way back… I think I’ll be back soon and I look forward to finishing up the campaign the way it was started.”

Appearing relaxed in an open-collar blue suit and jacket, Trump acknowledged that there was uncertainty about the course of the disease, which can hit recovering patients hard with no warning.

“I’m starting to feel good. You don’t know over the next period of a few days, I guess that’s the real test, so we’ll be seeing what happens over those next couple of days.”

Donald Trump was moved to the hospital on the advice of Conley for maximum safety, on Friday, hours after he and the First Lady tested positive. Following his diagnosis, several officials of the White House, including Trump’s campaign manager Bill Stapein and his former counsellor also tested positive.
