Former US President Barack Obama’s revealed in his insightful memoir ‘A Promised Land’ that in 2008 he ran for the White House against the will of his wife Michelle Obama.

Yet to become the first lady, Michelle, quoted by Obama, said, “The answer is no, I do not want you running for president. God, Barack, when is it going to be enough?”

However, Obama, in an interview with CBS, said that his wife’s stand was “legitimate” given the impact of his job on their family life.

Highlighting how much toll the presidency takes on family life, Obama stated that his previous bids for the US Congress and the State Senate had already taken a lot of his time. He often found himself asking “how much of this was just megalomania.”

But over time, Obama said, “Michelle made a conclusion that she shouldn’t stand in the way” and “begrudgingly” supported him throughout his journey. For his wife’s support, Obama says, he has been extremely grateful.

The book is the first of a planned two volumes following the former president’s time in the White House from 2009 to 2017 and will be published on November 17. While the first volume ends with the encounter of Osama Bin Laden by the United States in 2011, the second volume will likely cover the rest of his presidency and his life beyond.
