A state trooper was shot Friday morning on Interstate 88, law enforcement officials confirm.

The shooting happened at 11:16 a.m., according to State Police, while the trooper was conducting a traffic check. The trooper was struck by gunfire that was fired from inside the car. State Police later reported that his health was categorised as stable.

One individual was brought into jail, according to a person familiar with the incident, but police were still looking for a second person.

The highway was closed between Exit 23 in Schoharie and Exit 24 in Duanesburg.

A local law enforcement officer has been shot twice in less than a month.

On May 23, two Saratoga County sheriff’s officers were shot and seriously injured while serving a search warrant at a Clifton Park condominium.

Anthony Zaremski, 23, was killed when the cops retaliated with gunfire.

Zaremski opened fire on two sheriff’s deputies who were working with a task force to carry out a search warrant, and he was critically injured when they retaliated. According to sources, Zaremski was a suspect at the time of his death in at least one unsolved Albany killing and potentially in additional shootings.

A series of DEA-led searches that morning that targeted various Capital Region homes included the raid on Zaremski’s flat in Clifton Park. During the raids, 40 guns, over a kilogram of cocaine, and tens of thousands of illegal tablets, including methamphetamine and fentanyl, were seized. Three other people are accused.
