As Elon Musk is becoming entangled with a controversy regarding his decision to not buy Twitter, the billionaire is finding himself in uncharted territory once again related to Donald Trump.

Trump, 76, was once in awe of Musk as he compared him with Thomas Edison, calling the Tesla CEO as “one of our great geniuses.” The two did not always seem to see eye to eye, however, they found a middle ground later.

However, that relationship looks to have been dented in recent times with both coming up with potentially damaging statements.

Musk, who is known to share his views on Twitter, wrote that he voted for Mayra Flores in a Texas special election in June. The 51-year-old also added that it was the first time he ever voted for a Republican candidate. The comments came just after a tech summit during May 2022, where Musk revealed that he has been voting for the Democrats “overwhelmingly” in the past and “might never have voted for a Republican.”

Trump, a former US President, decided to hit back at Musk regarding his comments at a rally in Anchorage, Alaska in July. He called Musk “another bulls*** artist,” and went on to claim that the South Africa born tech billionaire confided in him that he voted for Trump in the 2016 election.

“You know, he said the other day ‘Oh, I’ve never voted for a Republican,'” the former US President said on July 9.

“I said, ‘I didn’t know that.’ He told me he voted for me. So he’s another bulls**t artist,” Trump added.

Musk once said that he will only join politics when it would benefit his companies. However, he later chose to join Trump’s staff in an advisory role and it was assumed that Musk is either a Trump supporter or a Republican.

“People should push to have as many moderates advising the President as possible,” Musk responded to his critics back then, adding, “Blind hate is never the right answer.”

He later left his role following Trump’s decision to pull out of the Paris Climate Accord in June 2017.

“Climate change is real,” Musk tweeted. “Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world,” he added.

Trump also shared his views on reports that Musk would not be buying Twitter after all. The SpaceX CEO had previously announced he would be reversing Twitter’s permanent ban on Trump.

“He’s not going to be buying it,” Trump quipped. “Although he might later. Who the hell knows what’s going to happen? He’s got a pretty rotten contract,” he opined.

Another scenario which might explain the falling out might be Musk’s indication to support Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the upcoming 2024 election. He recently said in an interview that he was unclear on whom to back between Trump and the Florida Governor, but Tweeted that he was inclining towards the latter.

Both are yet to announce their candidacy for the election.
