In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a fatal shooting in west Charlotte claimed the life of a 33-year-old man, identified as Frankie Chaparro, Jr. The incident unfolded at The Volaire apartments near West Tyvola Road and Perimeter Pointe Parkway around 2 a.m. Authorities, responding to a welfare call, discovered the victim with a gunshot wound.

Despite prompt medical attention, Chaparro was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear, and an active and ongoing investigation by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) is underway. As of now, there is no information available regarding the identity or description of the perpetrator, and the suspect is still at large.

In response to the incident, CMPD temporarily closed all eastbound lanes on the 10 Freeway for nearly three hours, affecting traffic in the area. The closure was necessary for a comprehensive search for evidence related to the shooting. Law enforcement also assisted in escorting vehicles off the freeway at South Soto Street around 8 a.m.
