Anna Morgan Lloyd, a woman from Indiana, was the first out of many defendants to be sentenced in connection to the Capitol riots of January 6 in Washington DC. Llyod was sentenced by a federal judge on Wednesday.
However, she avoided jail time and was instead ordered to three years of probation services, $500 as restitution fine and community service of at least 120 hours, reported Associated Press.
After cracking a deal with the prosecutors, Lloyd agreed to plead guilty to a single charge of misdemeanor.
According to the court documents, Lloyd was in Washington DC on January 6, 2021 to hear former US President Donald Trump after being invited by her hairdresser for the event.
The prosecuting attorneys also said that the Indiana woman was not involved in any of the violent events of the day and did not play a part in breaching the premises of the US Capitol.
During her sentencing, the 49-year-old said, “I’m ashamed that it became a savage display of violence that day” while apologising to the “American people”, her family and the court.
Judge Royce Lamberth, who passed the sentencing on Wednesday, said that others should not think that lenient punishments like a probation period would be the norm for everyone accused of breaching the US Capitol, reported Associated Press.
