Former senior adviser to President Donald Trump is launching a new social media platform called ‘Gettr’ on July 4 to declare independence from big tech. On Thursday, he described it as a marketplace of ideas that will take on big tech oligarchs.

Jason Miller’s first public comment about the site came on a live-stream hosted by Chinese businessman Guo Wengei. During the broadcast, Miller said the platform is a marketplace of ideas, where people can go and express their political and personal beliefs, and nobody will be cancelled on the site.

Further, he described the platform as a cancel-free zone that is focused on free speech.  “These big tech oligarchs try to dominate and control what people think, it almost reminds of that George Orwell book 1984,” he added. Miller told Fox News the platform evolved from the idea of “getting together.”

Gettr is officially launching on Sunday, July 4 at 10:00 a.m. ET, but the platform is already available in the app stores. In the Apple app store, Gettr describes itself as “a non-bias social network for people all over the world.” Its design and structure look like Twitter, including the little red verification badges for people like Guo and companies like Newsmax.

It will allow users to post longer messages with up to 777 characters. Miller added that Gettr will also allow its users to post “clearer pictures”  and post videos that are up to three minutes long.

As for former President Trump, it’s not sure whether he will join the platform. According to Bloomberg’s Jennifer Jacobs, Trump is still planning to launch his own venture.
