Four people including a child were killed in a shooting at a Southern California office building on Wednesday. Police shot the suspect after a fifth person was injured, according to media reports.

Police officers arrived at a two-story office building on Lincoln Avenue in Orange, southeast of Los Angeles while shots were being fired, reported Associated Press.

Lt Jennifer Amat said, “An officer-involved shooting occurred,” following which, the suspect was taken to the hospital. According to Amat, the shooting happened in the buildings second floor. 

It is still unclear as to what might have led to the confrontation. Signs outside the building state that a few businesses such as an insurance office, a financial consulting firm, a legal services business and a phone repair store were located inside.

Governor Gavon Newsom called the killings “horrifying” in a tweet. He said, “Our hearts are with the families impacted by this terrible tragedy tonight.”

California Democrat Katie Porter said in a tweet, “I’m continuing to keep victims and their loved ones in my thoughts as we continue to learn more. My team and I will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
