The Pentagon heavily criticised Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson on Thursday,
after he made a comment, calling the rise in the number of women serving in the United
States military a ‘mockery’ of the armed forces. He also called it ‘out of
control’, stating further that the decision of US President Joe Biden to
include women made it ‘more feminine’, reported AFP.

Department of Defense spokesperson John Kirby said that Defense Secretary
Lloyd Austin and high-ranked officials expressed ‘revulsion’ over the show host’s
comment on Tuesday.

Carlson “essentially demeaned the entire US military and how we
defend and how we serve this country,” Kirby was quoted as saying.

“The diversity of our military is one of our
greatest strengths. What we absolutely won’t do is take personnel advice from a
talk show host, or the Chinese military”, he further said.

The issue gained steam after President Joe Biden
tweeted out a picture of himself with two newly appointed soldiers, both women,
to four-star general positions. The appointments were understood to be paused
under the previous president Donald Trump.

“While China’s military becomes more masculine
as it assembles the world’s largest navy, our military needs to become, as Joe
Biden says, more feminine”, Carlson was quoted as saying in his nightly show.

Carlson, whose presentations are quite popular
among audiences, made further questionable comments against the women soldiers.

“New hair styles and maternity flight suits.
Pregnant women are going to fight our wars,” he said.
