Felix Auger-Aliassime vs JP Varillas:

Aliassime, who had lost in the first round of the French Open in 2020 and 2021, won his maiden title in a five-setter against qualifier Varillas.

The No. 9 in the world Aliassime overcame Juan Pablo Varillas 2-6, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 in a thrilling first-day match on Court Philippe Chatrier.

In a three-hour and 13-minute encounter, the Canadian struggled to play against Varillas in the opening two sets, with the Peruvian making his Grand Slam debut.

Auger-Aliassime, on the other hand, managed to turn the tables by reducing errors on his side to win the next three sets and progress.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Juan Londero:

After one hour and 50 minutes, the sixth seed defeated lucky loser Juan Ignacio Londero 6-4, 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the second round of the clay-court major.

On Court Philippe Chatrier, the Spaniard never strayed from his usual game, concentrating on his powerful groundstrokes and precise drop shot. Londero went behind 2-4 in the second set after missing a forehand wide, and his performance dropped from there. Alcaraz’s next opponent will be fellow countryman Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Dominic Thiem vs Hugo Dellien:

Dominic Thiem of Austria was eliminated in the first round of the French Open 2022 after losing to Bolivian Hugo Dellien at Paris’s Court Simonne-Mathieu. Dellien defeated two-time Roland-Garros finalist Dominic Thiem 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. The Austrian was looking for his first victory in over a year, but Dellien denied him.

The Bolivian broke Thiem four times in a remarkable two-hour, one-minute win, capitalising on the former World No. 3’s subpar performance to move to the second round of the clay-court Grand Slam for the second time. Dellien will face either Portuguese qualifier Nuno Borges or 21st seed Karen Khachanov in the next round.
