Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock, the Democratic Party
challengers for US Senate race in Georgia, have received record campaign funds collecting
more than $100 million each, much ahead of their Republican rivals, New York
Times reported on Saturday.

According to the information revealed by the Federal Election Commission, Ossoff managed to collect $106.7 million—highest ever in
Senate history—ahead of the Republican incumbent David Purdue’s $68 million.

Senator Kelly Loeffler, the other Republican, raised close
to $64 million from October 15 to December 16, far short of Warnock’s $103.3
million.

According to the Times report, Ossoff, who runs a media
production company, spent $93.5 million during that period and had $17.4
million in cash on hand, while Warnock, the pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church
in Atlanta, spent $86.1 million and had $22.7 million in cash on hand.

Perdue spent $57.8 million and had $16 million in cash, and Loeffler
spent $48.6 million and had $21.2 million in cash on hand.

Almost half the cash for the Democratic candidates has come
from small donations of up to $200, while for Loeffler and Purdue smaller
donations accounted for about 30% of what they raised.

The race for the two seats is crucial in that it will decide
who controls the Senate, and has attracted considerable attention from top
members of both the parties to show for it.

President Donald Trump, along with his eldest daughter
Ivanka Trump, have stoppped in Georgia in past few weeks to rally support for the Republican candidates.

Likewise,
Ossoff and Warnock have found champions in Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, the
president-elect and the vice president-elect, respectively.

Election for the two Senate seats will be held on January 5.

Georgia is being seen as a close call, and the Republicans are
not are facing a tough fight at the otherwise GOP-dominated state. The supremacy of the
party in the state received a dent when President Donald Trump became the
first Republican President to lose it since 1992.
