The abrupt appearance of many police vehicles Friday morning in Massapequa Park startled the locals.
After arresting one of their neighbors for the Gilgo Beach murders, they swooped in at 6:30 a.m.
His neighbors discussed him.

What We Know about Rex Heuermann’s Family
Etienne DeVilliers, a neighbor, said, “We’ve lived here for about 30 years, and the guy’s been quiet, never really bothers anybody.” To be honest, “We were kind of shocked.”
“It’s absurd. It’s astounding. Massapequa Park is peaceful”, according to neighbor Margaret Curley.
DeVilliers claimed that Heuermann, his next-door neighbor, is married and has two children.

DeVilliers remarked, “He grew up here, with his parents and his brother.”
“Since he was a young child, he has lived here. Since I was a young child, I’ve lived here. My parents’ home was mine to buy. He acquired the home of his parents. We have been neighbors for a long time”, Curley added.
According to DeVilliers, Heuermann’s family relocated to the Carolinas.
The man essentially keeps to himself. We merely greet each other and leave it at that, he remarked.
According to DeVilliers, Heuermann always claimed to be an architect.
“We’re shocked, as I mentioned, because the neighborhood is quite quiet. All of our neighbors know one another, and we all get along. It has never been an issue at all”, said DeVilliers.
