The 30th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards were held on January 11, 2021.
Conducted annually in Manhattan, New York City, the awards celebrate independent filmmakers and are often seen as preemptive of Academy Awards buzz. This year, the awards took on a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ actors Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis, director Steve McQueen and writer Ryan Murphy received tribute awards. The cast of ‘Trial of Chicago 7’ was honoured for the ensemble tribute.
