Marjorie Taylor Greene, a controversial GOP congresswoman, said that Democrats may have orchestrated the Highland Park shooting on July 4, 2022. The incident resulted in the death of at least seven people and left dozens injured in a Fourth of July parade in Illinois.
“It almost sounds like it is designed to persuade Republicans to go along with more gun control“, the Georgia lawmaker wrote in a Facebook post. She also connected the Highland Park shooting to a separate gun-related incident in Philadelphia, where two police officers were non-fatally shot Tuesday.

“Two shootings on July 4th, one in a rich, white neighborhood and another at a fireworks display”, she said in the post, according to reports from Rolling Stone.
“We did not see that happen at all the Pride parades in June, but as soon as we hit MAGA month, the month that we are all celebrating, loving our country, we have shootings on July 4th”, the congresswoman added.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, like most GOP lawmakers, tried to shift the blame on drug abuse saying that “gun control won’t stop this epidemic of evil.” Law enforcement officials have previously clarified that the suspect, Robert Crimo III, seemed to be acting alone. No political connections have been established so far.

Greene, who has often shared controversial conspiracy theories publicly, said in the post, “Well, what is the definition of a right-wing conspiracy theory? It is the news that is just six months early.”
According to an AP fact-check report, Greene also shared a doctored image of Crimo. He was seen holding a Bible “in jail or rehab or a psychiatric center.” After multiple social media users pointed out that the photo had been edited, the Republican lawmaker doubled down on her claims and demanded that the undisclosed information about the shooting should be revealed. She also demanded Crimo’s health and arrest records.
