United States Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday visited Highland Park in Illinois, where multiple people were shot and killed during a Fourth of July parade. The Vice President was accompanied by mayor Nancy Rotering, State Senator Julie Morrison and US Representative Brad Scheider.
Highland Park mayor Rotering had reportedly invited Vice President to visit the crime scene after Harris delivered a speech at the National Education Association in Chicago and addressed America’s growing gun violence.

“There is a lot of healing that’s going to have to happen that is both physical and emotional. There is no question that this experience is something that is going to linger in terms of the trauma”, Harris said while addressing a pool of reporters in Highland Park.
“I would like to urge all the families and all the individuals to seek the support you so rightly deserve”, the Vice President added, according to CNN reports.
At least seven people who attended the Highland Park parade on July 4, 2022, have died, law enforcement authorities confirmed. More than two dozen were injured in the shooting.
Police officials identified as 21-year-old Robert “Bobby” E. Crimo III, who has now been charged with seven counts of first-degree murder.
A spokesperson for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force said the suspected shooter, who was arrested late Monday, used a rifle “similar to an AR-15″ to spray more than 70 rounds from atop a commercial building into a crowd that had gathered for the parade in Highland Park, an affluent community of about 30,000 on the Lake Michigan shore.

Kamala Harris’ goof-up
While delivering her remarks at Highland Park, the Vice President seemed to have mixed up her words. She said, “We have to take this stuff seriously. As seriously as you are because you have been forced to take it seriously.”
Social media users were quick to point out this gaffe, with some saying that the Vice President sometimes “just does not make sense.”
