Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey on Sunday evening reminded many of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana’s interview with BBC’s Martin Bashir in 1995. This was the royal couple’s first interview after they stepped away from official royal duties in which the Duchess of Sussex spoke about many pressing issues like suicidal thoughts and racism.

The common thread between the royal couple and Diana’s interviews was palace-bashing and the alleged discrimination faced by the two women at the hands of the palace insiders. Even social media was abuzz with tweets revisiting Diana’s interview on the day Harry and Meghan’s interview was aired.

In one of the previews of a highly anticipated sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Duchess of Sussex wore a special piece of jewellery that brings back the memories of late Princess Diana.

Meghan, who is expecting her second child, even wore a bracelet that belonged to Harry’s mother and this was the same bracelet that was used to help craft Meghan’s engagement ring, reports People.com.

In an interview after their engagement, Harry said he used two diamonds from his late mother’s bracelet for in Meghan’s three-stone ring and the reason to wear the bracelet during the interview is to have Diana with them.

During the interview, Harry did say that his biggest fear before leaving the royal family was “history repeating itself” with his wife facing the intense scrutiny once faced by his late mother.

Harry was aware of what his mother had to go through in the palace and did not want his family to suffer the same — both at the hands of the palace and the press. They did not wait for the situation to spiral out of control, as it did for Diana.

Also, Harry had no qualms in admitting he was able to financially cut himself off from the British royal family only because his late mother Princess Diana left him an inheritance. He also said that she left him the money because she may have foreseen their current situation.
