The human remains found in the tanker fire in Philadelphia tanker fire that led to the partial collapse of the I-95 highway possibly belonged to Nathaniel Moody, the truck driver.

On Monday the driver’s remains were removed from the cab of the tractor-trailer. Family members have identified a male corpse after the tanker truck the deceased was driving crashed and burst into flames on Sunday underneath the overpass.

The fire started under the overpass at 6:30 am Sunday between Exit 32 for Academy Road and Exit 30 for Cottman Avenue. The fire broke out just after 6 a.m. Sunday between Exit 32 for Academy Road and Exit 30 for Cottman Avenue in the Tacony section of the city. After the collapse, drivers were told to avoid the area. Motorists already on the interstate were forced to turn around.

Who was Nathaniel Moody?

Nathaniel Moody was a 53-year-old truck driver. Although his family members have identified the driver, he is still being identified by the state officials

Moody’s family has described him as a husband and a father. He has been a driver for over 10 years of driving experience. According to him, at the time of the crash, he was transporting fuel for a company in Pennsauken, New Jersey.

Pennsylvania State Police has said that the truck was carrying 8,500 gallons of gasoline when it lost control on the Cottman Avenue off-ramp curve, overturned, and crashed on its side. Immediately after crashing, it caught fire. Due to the extreme heat from the fumes, an overpass on the northbound side of the highway completely collapsed. It also compromised the southbound portion of the highway. 

Crews were able to get the fire under control. There was no word about anyone being injured in the incident.
