Eric Holder Jr, rapper Nipsey Hussle’s killer, was sentenced to at least 60 years in prison on Wednesday. He was found guilty of first-degree murder last July. He fatally shot Hussle, whose legal name was Ermias Asghedom, outside his clothing store in  South Los Angeles in 2019. Two other men nearby were also wounded.

Hussle was 33. He was known for songs like Double Up, Hussle & Motivate and Racks In the Middle. At the 62nd Grammy Awards in 2020, two posthumous Grammy Awards were awarded to Hussle in the Best Rap Performance and Best Rap/Sung Performance categories.

Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke announced Holder’s 60 years to a life sentence. He was found guilty of murder and two counts of attempted voluntary manslaughter. He was not eligible for the death penalty.

Holder’s attorney told ABC News he planned to appeal the verdict. “It was always going to be tough given the high-profile circumstances surrounding the case,” attorney Aaron Jansen said.

Is Eric Holder Jr related to the former Attorney General?

As soon as Holder was sentenced, social media users questioned if he is related to the 82nd Attorney General of the United States from 2009 to 2015 – Eric Himpton Holder Jr.

The AG, 72 years old, served in the administration of President Barack Obama. He was the first African American to hold the position.

“Is this perp the SON OF FORMER OBAMA ATTORNEY GENERAL ERIC HOLDER???” a Twitter user asked.

“Any relations to Eric Holder, former Attorney General during the Obama years?” another one questioned.

“For the rest of my life I’m going to sort of think former US attorney general Eric Holder killed Nipsey Hussle,” a third one tweeted.

However, there is no link between the two. Social media users were only confused because of the similarity in their names.
