Stating that the coronavirus outbreak is well under control, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that his administration has done an “incredible” job in handling the pandemic. Trump made the statement at an Axios interview that aired on HBO. When asked about the death toll, the President said, “It is what it is.”

“They’re dying it’s true. It is what it is, but that doesn’t’ mean we aren’t doing everything we can. It’s under control as much as you can control it,” Trump said.

The US President has been often criticised for his reluctance to express grief for the victims. He had also downplayed the seriousness of the disease. Meanwhile, Dr. Deborah Birx, the response coordinator of the White House coronavirus task force said on Sunday, that the country is facing a new phase of the pandemic. She said the virus is “extraordinarily widespread.” Trump responded to it calling Birx “pathetic.”

Trump had also made several comparisons to prove that the situation in the US is better than the rest of the world. The data, however, paints a different picture. As of now, more than 155,000 Americans are known to have died from the virus. According to the prediction of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the toll can further climb up to 173,000 by August 22.
