US
President Joe Biden, who has aimed at putting the rights of LGBTIQ community above on
the US foreign policy agenda than ever before, has quickly initiated a campaign
to support them abroad. He is promoting former president Barack Obama’s 2011
initiative which was turned down during Donald Trump’s administration.

Biden along
with broadening the scope of efforts by US on LGBTIQ rights is also improving
based on his past decade’s learnings.

Biden in his first foreign policy speech on Thursday declared
that he was commanding all US government agencies in action abroad to encourage
the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer people
and to come up with plans within 180 days, reported AFP.

Biden said in the presidential memorandum that “All
human beings should be treated with respect and dignity and should be able to
live without fear no matter who they are or whom they love”. The memorandum
also mentioned that the United States would also fight discriminatory laws abroad
and work to build international coalitions against homophobia and transphobia.

Biden has planned a quick rise in refugee’s admission in US
and promised larger attention to LGBTIQ asylum seekers along with guaranteed
action on urgent cases even when vulnerable people first flee to countries that
are less welcoming.

According to a senior State Department official, Secretary of
State Antony Blinken has plans to appoint a special representative on LGBTIQ
issues. He told to AFP “I think that when that envoy is appointed,
that will help to elevate attention to these issues even further”.
