Addressing the nation a year after the coronavirus pandemic brought the country to a standstill, US President Joe Biden on Thursday urged all American “to get vaccinated” against the virus and assured that 100 million vaccination shots will be delivered by day 60, which is 40 days before his campaign promise.

“When I came into office, you may recall I set a goal, and many of you said it was way over the top. I said I intended to get 100 million shots in people’s arms in my first 100 days in office,” he said.

“Tonight, I can say we’re not only going to meet that goal we’re gonna beat that goal. We are actually on track to meet the goal of 100 million in arms on my 60th day in office,” Joe Biden added.

Calling on all the citizens to get vaccinated when it’s their turn, he said, “If we do all this, if we do our part, if we do this together, by July 4th there’s a good chance you, your families and friends will be able to get together in your backyard or your neighborhood and have a cookout and a barbecue and celebrate Independence Day,” Biden said during his primetime address.

He, however, added that people will only be allowed to celebrated in small groups.

As of Thursday, the United States had reported over 29 million cases and 530,000 deaths linked to the virus.
