Stage is set for Joe Biden to be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States.

His oath taking ceremony will begin at 10am ET (10pm IST) on Wednesday. Biden will then take oath and deliver an inaugural speech, likely to go on for 20 minutes.

The 78-year-old will then receive a President Escort to the White House, which will be followed by virtual performances in communities across the US.

The ceremony will also include a musical performance by Jennifer Lopez and a poetry reading by Amanda Gorman, the first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate.

The event, which is largely going to be virtual, will be attended by former presidents Barack Obama, George W Bush and Bill Clinton. Former President Donald Trump will be skipping the ceremony.

Due the violent attack by Trump supporters on the US Capitol earlier this month, over 20,000 National Guard soldiers are expected in Washington for the ceremony.
