Days after announcing that he would run for President in the United States, rapper Kanye West said that he had lost faith in Donald Trump. In a four-hour-long interview with Forbes, which the magazine termed as “four rambling hours of interviews”, West spoke about his relationship with the US President Donald Trump.

A former Trump supporter, West told the magazine that he is “taking the red hat off”, referring to the MAGA (‘Make America Great Again’) hat, a trademark of the Trump campaign, which he donned at a 2018 meeting with the President.

He said he has lost confidence in the President. “It looks like one big mess to me. I don’t like that I caught wind that he hid in a bunker”, West said, referring to the May 29 incident when Trump was taken to an underground bunker, as Black Lives Matter protesters demonstrated outside the White House.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Real Clear Politcs, Trump termed West’s presidential bid as “very interesting”.  However, he noted that the opportunity may have passed. “It’d have to be limited to certain states because in some states the deadline has been missed”, Trump said, referring to the passing of deadline in several states to register as an independent candidate.

The White House incumbent largely downplayed West’s bid and termed it as a “trial run” for the 2024 elections. “If he did it (contest 2020 elections) he would have to view this as a trial run for what’s going to happen in four years”, Trump said.

Kanye West termed the scenario of him becoming the President, in either 2020 or 2024 as “God’s appointment”. “Let’s see if the appointing is at 2020 or if it’s 2024 – because God appoints the president”, he said. “If I win in 2020 then it was God’s appointment. If I win in 2024 then that was God’s appointment”.

He said he’ll run under the banner of The Birthday Party, as “when we win, it’s everybody’s birthday”, the rapper said, who also informed that he registered as a voter for the first time on Monday.

West announced his White House bid in a tweet on July 4. “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States”, the 43-year old rapper tweeted.

The tweet has been liked over 1.2 million times and been retweeted
