A string of gunshots that happened in Lewiston, Maine on Wednesday night resulted in the deaths of at least 16 people. Numerous law enforcement sources have verified this heartbreaking information.

Moreover, between 50 and 60 persons are thought to have been injured in these occurrences, as reported by CNN.

Two distinct active shooter situations have been confirmed by the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO).

Residents of Lewiston are advised to seek refuge indoors due to an active shooter situation, as reported by the Maine State Police (MSP). MSP is now working on two distinct investigative sites.

Businesses are being advised by ACSO to either temporarily suspend operations or lockdown while the search for the suspects is still on.

According to reports, a gunman in Lewiston, Maine, opened fire at three separate sites, setting off a police manhunt. For their own safety, locals are being asked to stay inside.

“There is an active shooter situation in the city of Lewiston,” a statement from the Maine State Police read. People are being urged by law enforcement to remain indoors. Please lock your doors and remain inside your house.”

Schemengee’s Bar and Grill and the Sparetime Entertainment Center were the two original sites mentioned on police recordings. The second-largest city in Maine is around four miles from these locations.

Police were then summoned to a third place, a Walmart distribution center, according to Derrick St. Laurent, a Lewiston representative.

St. Laurent stated that the initial call was received at approximately 7:16 p.m. Sparetime. After that, officers were sent to Schemengee’s. They were summoned to the Walmart site at about 8:15 p.m.

This 36,000-person town is located 35 miles north of Portland and 35 miles south of Augusta, the state capital. Videos posted on social media show police swarming the site.

It’s still unknown as of right now whether anyone has been injured.
