Lori Vallow Daybell’s lawyer John Thomas was blasted online after he tried to interrupt a victim impact statement that was being read out during his client’s sentence hearing on Monday.

Daybell faces life in prison without the possibility of parole for murdering two of her children and conspiring to murder a romantic rival. She was found guilty in May. The 50-year-old is being sentenced at this moment at Fremont County Courthouse.

The court was also set to hear victim impact statements from loved ones of Tylee Ryan and Joshua Jaxon “JJ” Vallow, Vallow Daybell’s children whose bodies were recovered in 2020. During one of the statements, Thomas reportedly interrupted the speech by objecting — something that is a rare occurrence during VIS readings in murder cases.

This is why he was heavily criticized online.

“How can you object to a VIS?!?! Nothing they want and need to say should be removed or opposed to. She was already found guilty. How do you tell family of murdered loved ones “you can’t say that” or that it is stricken from the statement? BULLSHIT! #LoriVallowDaybell” one Twitter user said.

Another posted a meme with the caption: “when her lawyer interrupts a victim impact statement and objects,… how does it feel to be such a prick? #LoriVallow #LoriVallowDaybell.” A third pointed out, “What kind of a**hole objects during someone’s Victim Impact Statement. STFU John Thomas. Seriously. #LoriVallowDaybell” A fourth tweeted, “SIT DOWN JOHN THOMAS!!!!! Objecting during the victim impact statement. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!”
