The alleged autopsy picture of Maggie Murdaugh was accidentally leaked by an attorney during the Alex Murdaugh trial on Tuesday.

The picture is being circulated on social media. However, Opoyi will not share the picture. During the prosecution rebuttal, the coroner referenced this image of Maggie Murdaugh’s autopsy. Though court-redacted, it was presented to the public view. The photos were shown when the defense called forensic experts to dispute gunshot evidence during the trial.

Alex, a disbarred South Carolina lawyer, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, as well as 99 charges relating to financial misconduct after his wife and son, Maggie and Paul, were shot and killed at the dog kennels at the family’s estate on June 7, 2021.

On Monday, the defense mainly focused on testimony from forensic pathologist Jonathan Eisenstat and blood spatter expert Tim Palmbach. Both the experts disputed details that surfaced in the official autopsies of both Maggie and Paul Murdaugh.

According to Eisenstadt, Paul was shot in the head from behind. At the time of the shooting, the gun was pressed against his temple. The graphic photos showing the bodies of the victims and autopsies conducted were shown at this time. Alex could be seen getting visibly emotional and sobbing and dabbing his eyes with a tissue.

There was also the theory by Eisenstat that Paul appeared to be shot from an elevated angle and he was shot downward. This could indicate the shooter was taller than him. However, the theory was not a fact and was only stated as speculation.

According to Palmbach, due to the proximity of the shooting, the shooter was covered in gunshot residue and bodily fluid. Alex, on the other hand, testified that he did not get blood on his clothing – a statement that had already proven to be false.

Prosecutors have pointed to a Snapchat video showing Alex Murdaugh shortly before the murders. At the time, he was wearing different clothes than the clothes he was found in by police. The first set of clothing was never recovered.
