A fire broke, Friday afternoon, at the Mattapoisett Boat Yard on Ned’s Point. Crews are battling the fire that left several buildings, boats and cars in flames in the Playmouth, Massachusetts town.

A heavy, thick plume of black smoke could be seen at the location. Fire engines attempted to douse the flams and a fire boat was spraying water on the fire from a dock in Mattapoisett Harbor.

Radar detected the plume of smoke coming from Mattapoisett, the National Weather Service said.
A Bourne ambulance is also responding to the situation. According to local media, an explosion rocked the boatyard with fire ensuing and escalating to five alarms. At least one person reportedly suffered serious burns.

“Massive fire broke out in #Mattapoisett at the at the Mattapoisett Boat Yard on Ned’s Point Road. Thick black smoke, blotting out the sun and more than a dozen emergency vehicles. Hope everyone got out of there safely,” a Twitter user said.
“Crews on scene with heavy fire showing from a Structure. Fairhaven, Marion, Wareham, New Bedford Engine and Ladder, Acushnet, and Rochester to scene,” another one added.

“I have never seen anything quite like it in my life. Just explosion after explosion… the flames, the smoke,” Donna Credin of the WBZ NewsRadio said.

“The response to the 5th alarm boatyard fire in Mattapoisett, MA is impressive. Mattapoisett IC is requesting another 5 engines, a tanker, & 2 Gators on top of the swath of mutual aid on-scene,” Eric Weglarz, NWF Met Developer, tweeted.
